Call to Arms
To all adventurers;

I, Lord Hawkshield, request the assistance of all willing and able bodies. On route to Fernsworth, my family was attacked by Kobolds. The remains of the attack were found several days after the attack by travelers, with no visible sign of survivors. The body of my daughter, however, was not found, and I believe that she was captured by the Kobolds. I require any assistance in rescuing my daughter.

Anyone willing to help is to meet at the Ratnest Inn in Fernsworth, on the 23 of the month at midday. A minimum of 1000 GP will be payed out upon my daughter's safe return.

The system we will be using is Dungeons and Dragons, 5th Edition.

The biggest thing you can do to prepare is to have an idea of who your character is going to be. Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a role-playing game, meaning you take the role of a character, one who has a life and personality of his own. In Dungeons and Dragons, you can play as whoever you want to be; from rich to poor, strong to weak, genius levels of intelligence, all the way to being as dumb and tough as a brick. There are a couple of things you can think about while imagining your character.

  • Physical characteristics such as your Race, age, sex, and unique features.
  • Your past, or what you did before this quest. Can be anything you can think of.
  • Your adventurer training, or your class. This represents the majority of the combat skills you have gained, as well as their source. You might associate yourself with multiple classes, such as a Fighter who has learned some Wizard spells, or a Rogue trained in the martial arts of a Monk.
  • What your personality, morals, and goals are. This ties into why you are responding to the request for aid from Lord Hawkshield.

Also, while the rules of how to play D&D will be explained at the table, resources are available for those wanting to be extra prepared. The basic rules for D&D can be found here. This contains the complete rules for the game, some of the common races, and a small selection of classes. Again, while you may find knowledge of how the game is played to be useful, the assumption will be that most people will not know the rules, so view these at your own discretion.

 

Experienced Players

We will be using 1st level characters made using point buy or the standard array for stats. No racial restrictions will be applied to Sword Coast classes. Use the default equipment for a character of your class and background. If your build requires unique equipment then message me for exceptions.

You can use the Player's Handbook, Elemental Evil Players Companion, and the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. All errata will be followed. Any other resources must be approved by me before play.

Crits

On a crit, the extra dice will be maxed instead of rolled. Example:

A fighter wielding a longsword rolls a crit. His normal damage is 1d8+5. Before, his crit damage would be 2d8+5. His crit damage using this rule will be 1d8+8+5. bq). A rogue assassin lands a sneak attack with a longbow against an unaware target. His normal damage is 1d8(Longbow) + 2d6(Sneak Attack) + 3. Before, his crit damage would be 2d8+4d6+3. His crit damage using this rule will be 1d8+8+2d6+12+3.
